Purbrook
Settled residential area with a village-like centre, heath and good schools
A well-established residential area to the south of Waterlooville, sitting between the town centre and the A3(M) motorway. Purbrook has an older history than Waterlooville itself, with evidence of settlement going back centuries. The area has a village feel in places, particularly around the old centre near the junction of Stakes Hill Road and London Road, where St John's Church stands. Purbrook Heath, an area of common land, provides valuable green space with heathland, mature trees and footpaths. Housing ranges from Victorian and Edwardian cottages near the old village centre to interwar semis and large postwar estates further out. Purbrook Park, a large recreation ground, has sports pitches, a children's playground and open space. The Woodcroft Primary School and Purbrook Park School serve the area. Purbrook is popular with families because of its settled character, the green spaces and the range of schools. The proximity of the A3(M) gives good road access to Portsmouth and beyond.
