Stakes
Postwar residential suburb east of the town centre with family housing and local schools
A residential area to the east of Waterlooville town centre, developed mainly in the postwar decades. Stakes takes its name from Stakes Road, the main route running eastward from the centre towards Leigh Park and Havant. The area is predominantly residential, with a mix of postwar semis, detached houses and some later development. Stakes Hill Road branches off to the south, connecting through to Purbrook. The Stake Lane area has a quieter, suburban feel, with wider streets and family-sized houses set in reasonable plots. There is a small parade of shops along Stakes Road serving local needs. Stakes is within walking distance of the town centre and has good bus connections to Havant and Portsmouth. Several primary schools serve the area, and Crookhorn College (now part of The Crookhorn College) provides secondary education. Hart Plain, a sub-area within Stakes, has its own community feel and a playing field used by local football teams.
