Wecock Farm
Large 1960s-70s council estate with a community centre and strong local identity
A large council housing estate to the south-east of Waterlooville town centre, built in the 1960s and 1970s to meet the demand for affordable family housing in the growing area. The estate was built on farmland and retains the name of the original farm. Wecock Farm has a distinctive layout of crescents, closes and cul-de-sacs set around a central community hub. The estate has its own primary school, a community centre, a convenience store and a small parade of shops. The housing is a mix of terraced houses, semi-detached houses, maisonettes and low-rise flats, typical of the municipal housing design of the period. Many properties have been purchased by tenants under right-to-buy legislation. The estate has a strong community spirit, and local groups organise events and activities. Wecock Farm Community Centre is a focal point for residents, hosting clubs, groups and social activities. The estate is within walking distance of Waterlooville town centre and is served by regular bus routes.
