Doctors and GP Surgeries in Waterlooville

Primary healthcare across the town

Waterlooville is served by several GP surgeries that provide primary healthcare to the town's large population. The surgeries are distributed across the main residential areas, with practices in the town centre, Cowplain, Stakes, Purbrook and Wecock Farm. Most operate on an appointment system, with some offering online booking and telephone consultations alongside traditional face-to-face appointments.

The Forest End surgery and the Stakes Road practice are among the larger surgeries in the area, serving thousands of registered patients each. Cowplain has its own GP practice that serves the northern part of the borough. The surgeries offer standard NHS services including vaccinations, health checks, chronic disease management and referrals to hospital specialists.

Access to GP appointments is a recurring concern, as it is across much of the NHS. Waiting times for non-urgent appointments can stretch to two or three weeks during busy periods, and patients sometimes find it difficult to see their preferred doctor. The pharmacies adjacent to the surgeries provide an alternative first point of contact for minor ailments, and the NHS 111 service is used for out-of-hours guidance.

Queen Alexandra Hospital (QA) in Cosham is the nearest major hospital, approximately four miles to the south. The hospital provides accident and emergency services, specialist outpatient clinics and inpatient care. For Waterlooville residents, reaching QA typically involves a drive down the A3(M) or a bus journey through Cosham. Minor injury units and walk-in clinics are available at other locations in the Portsmouth area, providing alternatives to the emergency department for less serious conditions.
