Secondary Schools in Waterlooville

Education for young people aged 11 to 16

Secondary education in the Waterlooville area is provided by several schools that serve the town and surrounding communities. The main secondary schools include comprehensive academies that take students from across the borough, offering GCSEs and, in some cases, sixth form provision. Purbrook Park School and Cowplain Community School are among the established secondary schools in the area.

The schools differ in character, size and academic performance. Ofsted inspection ratings provide a snapshot of each school's strengths and areas for development, and parents are advised to visit schools, attend open evenings and speak to current families before making their choices. The admissions process is managed by Hampshire County Council, with oversubscription criteria based on catchment areas, siblings and distance.

Post-16 education options include sixth forms at some local schools, Havant and South Downs College (with campuses at Havant and South Downs), and various apprenticeship programmes. The college offers A-levels, BTECs and vocational qualifications across a wide range of subjects, and its Havant campus is accessible by bus from Waterlooville.

Transport to school is a practical consideration for families in the more rural parts of the borough. School buses and public transport services connect residential areas to the main secondary schools, though the routes and timetables do not always align perfectly with school start and finish times. Walking and cycling to school are encouraged where distances allow, and several schools have active travel plans.
