Continued Growth and New Housing
2000s-2020s
In the twenty-first century, Waterlooville has continued to grow, with new housing developments on the edges of the built-up area and infill development on brownfield sites. The Berewood development, a major new housing estate on the western edge of the town, has added hundreds of new homes with associated infrastructure. The town centre has faced the same pressures as high streets across England, with competition from online shopping, out-of-town retail parks and the pull of larger centres like Portsmouth and Fareham. The community continues to evolve, with new residents arriving from across the country, attracted by the combination of suburban housing, good road links and proximity to the South Downs. The lack of a railway station remains the most notable gap in the town's transport provision.
