Driving and Parking in Waterlooville

Roads, routes and car parks around town

Waterlooville sits at the junction of several important roads, making it a convenient base for drivers but also a town that experiences significant traffic congestion at peak times. The A3(M) motorway runs to the east of the town, connecting Waterlooville to Portsmouth to the south and the A3 towards Petersfield and London to the north. The B2150 runs through the town centre along London Road, and local roads connect to Havant, Horndean, Denmead and Fareham.

Parking in Waterlooville town centre is provided by the shopping centre car park, which offers several hours of free parking and is the most popular option for shoppers. On-street parking is available on some residential roads around the centre, though restrictions apply during working hours. Cowplain has its own small car parks serving the shops along London Road.

Traffic congestion is a regular issue, particularly on London Road during the morning and evening rush hours. The Maurepas Way roundabout and the junctions around the town centre can become congested, and the single-carriageway stretches of London Road through Cowplain slow traffic further. The A3(M) itself is generally free-flowing, but delays at the junction with the A27 near Havant can back up onto the motorway during peak periods.

For residents commuting to Portsmouth, Fareham or Chichester, the car remains the default mode of transport for many. The absence of a railway station reinforces car dependency, and the town's road network reflects this reality. Cycle lanes and pedestrian improvements have been introduced in places, but Waterlooville remains fundamentally a car-oriented town.
